Recent passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Congressman Lewis

"As with the recent passing of civil rights leader, Congressman John Lewis, the loss of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a profound loss for our nation. We are all reminded of what's possible through her extraordinary life and career when we persist despite injustice and inequality. Justice Ginsburg's dissents at the Supreme Court were noteworthy, including a staunch defense of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In Shelby County v. Holder, 570 US 529 (2013), Justice Ginsburg cited controversial voting methods such as at-large block voting and racial gerrymandering as "second generation" efforts used to undermine minority voting rights in America. As a champion for women's rights and advocacy, Justice Ginsburg's courageous voice will be missed but not long forgotten.
